William J. Worthington, III Brandywine/Springfield Waterproofing LLC

William J. Worthington, III is the owner of Brandywine/Springfield Waterproofing LLC, a family operated waterproofing company based out of Exton. Bill has been an active member of the Association since 1994 and currently serves as a Director on the Suburban West REALTORS® Association’s Board of Directors, representing the organization’s Affiliate Members. Bill also serves on the Affiliate Member Forum and his company has been a proud sponsor of many Association events.

Please share with us your background and your career track.

After serving as a Green Beret Staff Sergeant with the US Army Special Forces, with missions in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, I obtained a Bachelors degree in Finance from Villanova University night school while advancing through various managerial positions with Bell Atlantic for 23 years.

I formed Brandywine/Springfield Waterproofing in 1986 as a Marketing compliment to hopefully expand my Father-in-law’s Basement Waterproofing family operation. The Marketing worked and I left Bell in 1989 to exclusively focus on my rapidly growing Waterproofing activities, particularly with Real Estate Agents, having increased family operational sales by 25%.

Early in the waterproofing business I joined the Delaware County and the Chester County Board of REALTORS® (then separate – now combined as Suburban West) serving on each organizations’ Affiliate Member Committee, meeting and working closely with many of today’s “Top Producers” in their early careers, most of whose basements I have since waterproofed.

What do you believe to be the role of the REALTOR® in helping to identify a waterproofing problem?

Simply using their common “senses” – If it “smells” moldy, “feels” damp, or you “see” anything abnormal – call a Waterproofer for a free estimate! (Hopefully by using the Affiliates First Directory)

What warning signs should a REALTOR® look for when walking through a listings basement?

The short answers are cracks or white chalky marks on the basement walls or floors, damp rugs or loose tile, or rotten wood at the base of the steps or doorways. For better information and great visual pictures call for a 20 minute office presentation (we’ll spring for doughnuts or pizza).

In your determination, what is the difference between an inside waterproofing problem and an outside problem and how are they handled differently?

An inside problem is usually simply water coming up thru the basement floor (hydrostatic pressure) while more complicated outside problems cause water to come over or through the wall. They should be handled differently but often are not as most waterproofing companies only do inside French drains.

If you suspect or want outside solutions consult an experienced Waterproofer who has the special expertise to analyze and repair things like landscaping problems, window well leakage, yard drains, chimney and Bilco door leaks, and cracked or bowed walls.

At the end of a busy day, how do you prepare yourself for the next challenge?

I view my customers, most of whom are REALTORS®, as opportunities – not challenges. Nothing is more gratifying than when, in the evening during my after job completion follow up calls to my customers, they proceed to tell me how professional and caring the workforce was and how they absolutely would refer their fellow Realtors to Brandywine/Springfield Waterproofing. Nothing beats a customer compliment for getting pumped up.

After my enormous pride in our company personnel - my single biggest bragging right is that Brandywine/Springfield Waterproofing has waterproofed more Realtor’s personal homes than any other company as demonstrated by our website reference list on Realwaterproofer.com. We love dealing with REALTORS® and consider ourselves the Waterproofer for REALTORS®.
