Suburban REALTORS® Alliance

About Us

Established in January 1998, the Suburban REALTOR® Alliance (SRA) is a subsidiary corporation of the three largest local REALTOR® Associations in Pennsylvania: the Bucks County, Montgomery County and Suburban West Associations of REALTOR®. The SRA is affiliated with the Pennsylvania Association of REALTOR® and the National Association of REALTOR®.

The mission of the SRA is to ensure that public policy decisions affecting real estate create a healthy climate for housing, our industry and the real estate consumers we serve. The SRA is a resource for our shareholder members, local government and elected officials, and consumers of real estate services.

In general, our REALTOR® members support real estate policies that:

  • Protect fundamental property rights;
  • Promote uniformity in local standards and consistency in enforcement;
  • Avoid unnecessary duplication of existing fees, statutes or regulations; and
  • Address quality of life issues that impact small business owners.

Political Advocacy

The SRA represents its shareholders through frequent staff and member interaction with state and local governments, elected officials, community groups, and other interested parties.

As a liaison between public officials and the real estate industry, we hope to work together to build our communities and ensure the availability of safe and affordable housing for all residents.

RPAC

To support the development and enactment of sound public policy, the SRA regularly evaluates the voting records of public officials. In part, this evaluation process serves as a guide for making financial contributions to candidates through the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC).

RPAC is a standing committee of the National Association of REALTOR® and the Pennsylvania Association of REALTOR® that provides funding for political candidates at the state and federal level. Decisions regarding RPAC support are based solely on a candidate’s position on real estate issues, rather than political affiliation.

In 1998, the REALTOR® Legislative Alliance formed the Southeast REALTOR® PAC (SERPAC), working in conjunction with RPAC, to support candidates at the local level. Since its inception SERPAC has supported local political parties as well as candidates for County Commissioner, Recorder of Deeds, City Council, Mayor and other important elected offices.

Municipal Issues

A critical function of the SRA is to represent the interests of the real estate industry and consumers at the municipal level. Our REALTOR® members focus on getting involved with their elected officials at the local level – in the communities where they live, work and vote.

To support this important mission in our 238 municipalities, our staff reviews proposed ordinances and submits comments to local officials based on established policies of the REALTOR® organization.

Issues of special interest to our members at the municipal level include: use and occupancy certificates and associated fees; professional disclosure; sign use; land use; rental property licensure; and other real estate-related ordinances.

SRA Website

Our website was designed as a resource for REALTOR® members as well as municipal officials and consumers. It contains the latest news about real estate issues in SRA territory, a database of municipal real estate regulations, a section for real estate consumers, and a political action center that allows visitors to get involved in the public policy arena.
