Professionalism
Tip: Be Aware of Intellectual Property Rights
Intellectual
property generally refers to creations for which the author or creator has
certain rights to control the use of the material. Typically these rights
are protected by such things as copyrights, trademarks and patents.
REALTORS should be mindful that permission is required when using protected
works or ideas. Copyrights are particularly troublesome. Whether electronic
or print, 'borrowing' someone else's thoughts, ideas or other protected
material without permission is illegal. This
article serves as a start to understanding what is and isn't a
violation of copyrights.
Can REALTORS
Prosper By Embracing New Technologies Earlier?
Plan on Attending
SWRA's FREE Technically Speaking Event on October 18 To Find Out
There are many
corporate examples of companies failing because they were slow to embrace
new technologies in the marketplace. During a recent Agent Reboot
Conference in Cherry Hill, Chris
Smith, Inman News' chief evangelist, compared the failures of
retailers like Borders and Blockbuster and urged REALTORS to learn a lesson
from their mistakes as it relates to integrating new technology into a
business, along with other methods, only helps build success. (For more on
Smith's remarks, access
the PARJustListed.com article here)
Suburban West offers a glimpse at the latest technologies and
how they can benefit your business at our Technically
Speaking event on October 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., a
free event for Suburban West members. Featuring fellow REALTORS who have
demonstrated success in their business with the latest software and
gadgets, the October 18 session will focus on: iPad for Real Estate,
Google+, Top Mobile Apps, and Facebook Groups. Register
today (once logged in, access the Events Calendar) and let
technology help improve your business.
ARS Classes Fit
Into Any Schedule
Following our
announcement of the curriculum
for the 2012 license renewal, we are excited to highlight two 3.5
hour courses being offered through the school. Each of these classes
provides Pennsylvania and Delaware real estate license renewal credit and
are $45 (or FREE for MCE
Season Pass Holders).
Providing a solid foundation in some of the core concepts of
today's real estate practice, Agency,
Professional Standards and Fair Housing (Oct. 27; 9:00am-12:30pm
at the
Association of REALTORS School, Malvern ) explores the various
concepts of agency (including dual agency, buyer agency and statutory
agency); an overview of changes to the code of ethics and the professional
standards process; and specific fair housing issues like megan's law,
intent vs effect in discrimination and advertising.
The real estate tax load can be one of the initial questions
asked by a potential buyer and may be more critical to closing an Agreement
of Sale than the underlying purchase price. Understanding
Real Estate Taxes and the Appeal Process (Oct. 27; 1:30pm-5:00pm
at the Association
of REALTORS School, Malvern) will provide students the ability to
explain the components of the aggregate real estate tax load and to advise
both buyers and sellers regarding the potential of obtaining a partial
assessment reduction in appropriate situations.
Please remember that your support of the school supports your
REALTOR organization, allowing Suburban West to keep the same local dues
for the past 17 years.
