REALTORS Discuss
Issues on Capitol Hill
Last week, nearly 10,000 REALTORS converged
in Washington DC for the annual National Association of REALTORS Mid-Year
Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo. As always a major component of the
meetings was the interaction between REALTORS and their respective
Congressmen and Senators.
A contingency of Suburban West REALTORS members were on hand
at meetings with Congressmen Joe Sestak and Jim Gerlach. Click
here for a summary of the issues that were discussed and the
REALTOR position on them.

Professionalism
Tip: Use the REALTOR Name With Pride
The term REALTOR and the block R logo are
registered trademarks of the National Association of REALTORS. The REALTOR
name and trademark signify to the consumer that you have pledged yourself
to a level of professionalism over and above license law and other
regulations. Public awareness campaigns have increased awareness among
consumers of the differences and value of using a REALTOR.
It is important that members use the term and marks correctly.
The preferred method for the word REALTOR is all capital letters with the
superscripted registered trademark symbol. In some mediums, such as this
newsletter, the registered trademark is not used because it will not
display properly, or is not available. In that case, all capital letters,
without the symbol, is acceptable. Realtor without all capital letters is
acceptable WITH the registration symbol.
The word REALTOR describes your membership in the REALTOR
Association. Only members may use the term. Members may use the term
adjacent to - separated by punctuation - and not as part of their name or
with any descriptive words or phrases. To ensure proper use and display of
REALTOR and the block R logo in all print and electronic mediums, access the
complete Membership
Marks Manual here.
The term REALTOR-Associate is not appropriate for Suburban
West REALTORS Association members. The Board of Directors voted almost 20
years ago to become an all REALTOR board. Therefore the use of
REALTOR-Associate to distinguish between broker and salesperson/associate
broker licensees is not necessary.
Last, but certainly least, REALTOR is a two syllable word.
REAL-tor not REAL-a-tor.

Exercise Caution
When Posting Real Estate Info on Non-MLS Electronic Sites
We have become aware
that certain electronic posting of real estate information on electronic
sites other than MLS locations have been subject to unauthorized use. All
Members are urged to exercise caution when selecting electronic mediums
other than MLS sites to market your listings. The options available in the
electronic market place offer many and varied strategic opportunities to
expose listings to the widest audience possible. However, we must be
vigilant and remain protective of our clients' data to ensure that the
integrity of any listing or published information is not subject to
compromise.
Members are advised to confirm that any Non-MLS electronic
medium selected for the dissemination of information is secure and
reliable. Be certain that editing and tampering controls are in place to
avoid manipulation and unauthorized use. In every instance it is necessary
that precautions be taken to insure that any information presented for
publication or posting is not subject to editing, tampering, unauthorized
use or appropriation by third parties.
