Association Recognized for Promoting Fair Housing

Fair Housing PresentationOn Tuesday (March 31), the Delaware County Council recognized the Suburban West REALTORS Association along with other local housing organizations for our continued efforts of promoting Fair Housing and accompanying initiatives amongst our members and the community. REALTOR Member Bob Tyler and Suburban West REALTOR Chairman Jim Ryal attended the proclamation ceremony earlier this week at the Council Chamber in Media where they were presented with the County's Resolution proclaiming April as Fair Housing Month (click here for the text of the resolution).

We, as REALTORS know that the Spring market usually brings more business and housing inquiries, and it also brings to mind the 40th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act. The Act protects the right of all Americans to peruse the dream of homeownership without discrimination based on race, creed, color, disability, sex, familial status and origin.

The National Association of REALTORS has posted an article about Fair Housing and new strides to improve it. To read this article, please click here.

Professionalism Tip: Protecting Your Client

Protecting clientsDid you know that it is a violation of RESPA for a seller of property that is purchased with the assistance of a federally related mortgage loan to require directly or indirectly, as a condition to selling the property, that title insurance covering the property is purchased by the buyer from any particular title company? A seller in violation is subject to prosecution under RESPA. Familiarity with this, and other issues that consumers are not aware of, protects your client and is another reason why consumers need your professional services.

Thank you to Pat Moyer, ABR, GRI, SRES, e-PRO for suggesting this Professionalism Tip. Pat is a certified ethics, continuing education and designation instructor for the Association of Realtors School.

Commercial/ Investment Marketing Exchange Meeting on April 11

The C/I Marketing Exchange will next convene at the Association's office in Malvern from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11. While this month's topic is still to be announced, the meeting will also feature an opportunity to network with upwards of 30 other members interested in commercial/industrial/investment real estate and discuss any "haves" and "wants" of your clients.
