Time is Running Out to Register for Supra Preview Dates
Active Key As part of our ongoing efforts to make all members aware of the forthcoming conversion to a new Supra electronic key system, we are able to report that the Suburban West, Greater Philadelphia and Lancaster Associations of REALTORS members will convert to the new technology the week of February 11, 2008. It is important to note that there will be no interruption of service during the exchange process. The Bucks and Montgomery County Associations will convert the week of February 18, 2008. As was announced two weeks ago, all Suburban West members are strongly encouraged to preview the new Supra system and to learn more about the integrated technology that eliminates the need for daily cradling and update codes. The Preview Sessions are educational sessions and the actual conversion will take place the week of February 11th. See below.

The following four Preview Sessions are available to register for:

  • Wednesday, January 30 at either 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., or 1:00 p.m. at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, PA
  • Friday, February 1 at 3 p.m. at the Suburban West REALTORS Association in Malvern, PA

Affiliate-REALTOR Connection Blog Update
Home with magnifying glass Affiliate members can offer a lot of valuable information to REALTOR members to assist them, from: reading a home inspection report to staging a home for a quick sell, or even mortgage insurance advice. The Suburban West REALTORS Association provides the opportunity for Affiliate members to blog on trends and issues that they see happening in their respective industries. Relationship Training
In real estate, a fortune can be made or lost on the quality of the relationships you have with clients, other REALTORSŪ, and the general public. Quality relationships lead to closed transactions and/or referrals. In Agency; Definitions, Distinctions & Disclosures, students will explore the seller, buyer, designated & dual agency and transaction licensee. They will apply these roles to practical situations. Students will also discuss the issues relating to the consumer notice, substantive discussion and comparative market analysis. This course is an opportunity to learn and evaluate your practices for compliance with the law and the Code of Ethics. REALTOR Lawyer Forum Discusses Short Sales
Gavel and books The Chester County Bar Association and the Suburban West Realtors Association host a monthly forum for Realtors and Attorneys to discuss topics of mutual interest. Offered on the first Thursday of each month at the Chester County Bar Association offices at 15 W. Gay Street, West Chester, PA, these luncheon meetings start at noon and end promptly at 1:00 p.m. The forum topic on February 7, 2008 is "Sheriff's Sales and Short Sales". The scheduled speaker is Michael G. Louis, Esquire.

To reserve your seat and pay for your lunch ($11) please visit our payment and registration center, log in and go to the events calendar. Choose the CC Realtor Lawyer Forum for February and follow the prompts to register and pay for your lunch with a credit card. Reservations must be made no later than noon on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. No walk-in registration. If you make a reservation and find you need to cancel, you must do so ONLINE no later than noon on Tuesday, February 5th. No refunds will be given after noon on February 5th. Attendance is open to REALTORŪ members and Attorneys.

Mediation and Training Scholarship Available
The Pennsylvania Realtors Institute will offer "Real Estate Mediation" on March 13th and 14th, 2008 at the Harrisburg Hilton, Harrisburg, PA. This two-day training will provide students with the basic skills to become a successful real estate mediator. The course tuition, $149.00 covers two days of class, all course materials, lunch and snacks.

The scholarship can be used for tuition to the Pennsylvania REALTORS Institute's "Real Estate Mediation" course, and reimbursement of lodging and travel expenses (upon submission of hotel bill or receipts) up to a maximum scholarship amount of $500. To apply for the scholarship, submit a completed scholarship application form to Paula Tansey no later than Thursday, February 1, 2008. Applications may be mailed (100 Deerfield Lane, Suite 240, Malvern, PA 19355) or faxed (610-560- 4801). The scholarship recipient will be chosen by the Board of Directors or a panel of directors. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application in sufficient time to register for the class on their own if they so desire.

Memorial Notice
The Association is saddened to inform the membership of the passing of one of it's members. Margaret "Peggy" Bowden, a REALTOR member with the St. David's office of Duffy Real Estate, passed away on December 16th in Savannah, GA. Peggy had been active in real estate since 1967. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) 2121 K Street Northwest, Suite 650 Washington, D.C. 20037.

Safety Tip
A year-long series of brief recommendations to promote REALTOR safety in the office and out in the field.
Plan ahead with a distress code. Establish a voice distress code, a secret word or phrase that is not commonly used but can be worked into any conversation in cases where you feel that you are in danger. Use this if the person you are with can overhear the conversation, but you don't want to alarm them. Example: "Hi, this is Jennifer. I'm with Mr. Henderson at the Elm Street listing. Could you e-mail me the RED FILE?"
