Helping Those Devastated By
Hurricane Katrina
The Suburban West REALTORS Association urges all members to contribute to one or many of the funds that have been established to assist those individuals whose lives have been uprooted and irreparably damaged by Hurricane Katrina. I am sure many have already contributed financially and/or with goods or maybe even services. If you have not yet contributed, we would like to make you aware of some specific funds set up by the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) and the three state Associations that were most affected by this remarkable disaster. The Suburban West REALTORS Association has contributed $15,000 and we hope that many of you can also contribute through any of the following funds:

To contribute to the REALTORS Relief Foundation: Make a credit-card donation online by visiting the REALTORS Relief Foundation Web Site or send a check, payable to the REALTORS Relief Foundation, to REALTORS Relief Foundation, Attn: NAR Finance Division, 430 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago IL 60611. (NOTE that all funds given through NAR go directly to the relief efforts as all administrative costs are absorbed by NAR) To contribute to the Alabama REALTOR Disaster Relief Fund: Make a credit-card donation online by visiting the Alabama REALTORS Disaster Relief Web Site or by calling the association at 334/262-3808. Or send a check, payable to the Alabama REALTOR Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 4070, Montgomery, AL 36104. Lower Merion Approves
Controversial Ordinance

The planning commission voted Monday night to recommend the re-adoption of the Bryn Mawr Medical District ordinance, despite neighbors' continuing objections that the hospital expansion it permits will transform suburban residential neighborhoods with high-density urban development. The Bryn Mawr ordinance was back before the planners precisely because the additional planning commission review did not occur when the board of commissioners adopted a revised ordinance in May. The board opted to hold a new public hearing. Hank Wilson, president of the Bryn Mawr Civic Association, which has also challenged the ordinance as spot zoning, urged planners not to recommend approval. (Source: MainLineLife; 9/8/05)
