 Mortgage Fraud: Recognizing the Signs

Mortgage fraud is increasingly becoming a potential source of liability for real estate brokers and their businesses. It is imperative brokers have a policy to address the issue internally, since they are held responsible if their agents are involved in a fraudulent transaction.

The National Association of REALTORS' (NAR) Risk Management Committee has created a new brochure to help brokers explain the issue and identify warning signs in a transaction for their agents. Information is downloadable at no cost and available as a flyer or brochure. This is a handy document to use in sales meetings or education programs for agents to reinforce the office policy when signs of mortgage fraud appear in a transaction.

Already, Chester County, Montgomery County and Philadelphia have begun accepting the e-documents. More counties are predicted to utilize this new technology.
