Discussion
Question
Each month, the
Suburban West REALTORS Association will provide Association Liaisons with
a question in which we are seeking member feedback on. We
urge you to discuss this question with agents at your office during a
sales meeting, through an email, or during the course of your daily
conversations when appropriate.
Thank you for the
responses to last month's Discussion Question on REALTORS'
reluctance to file a complaint. As a follow-up to the responses,
what are some ways on how REALTORS handle the dispute instead?

NEW Standard Form for Referrals
The Referral Agreement
(REF) is now available! The form was developed after requests from
members for a standardized way to memorialize the referral of business
between agents, brokers and their firms. Click here to view a sample form.
- The REF form provides very distinct options for
the fee agreement.
- The parties are encouraged to identify whether
the referral fee is a percentage or a flat fee and from what side of
the transaction the fee should come.
- The form provides when the fee shall be paid and
even puts a time limit on the agreement.
- There is also provision on the form for the
involvement of third party relocation programs.
A written agreement is
stronger and more likely to prevail than a verbal one. Use of this form
will build relationships and avoid unnecessary and unprofessional
quarrels.
You may place an order
with the Association to purchase the form at a member discount as well as
other Standard Forms. To download an Order Form, click here.

RPAC: Your Best
Investment in
As important as it is
to be involved in your local community, it is equally important that we,
as REALTORS, are involved at the state and national levels of government
as well. The REALTORS Political Action
Committee (RPAC) has enabled REALTORS by:
- Addressing onerous U&O inspection
requirements and sign ordinances.
- Stopping increases to the real estate Transfer
Tax and helping to exempt capital gains from personal Income Tax on
the sale of a primary residence.
- Maintained the Mortgage Interest Deduction and
working to secure health insurance relief for independent
contractors.
As an Association Liaison, please consider
volunteering during our Annual RPAC Telethon on June 11 or
making a contribution. To read more about how your
contribution is your best investment in real estate, click here.
