REALTOR Assaulted On The Job
As reported by local media outlets, a REALTOR was alleged to
have been assaulted last Thursday in our community. The Suburban
West REALTORS Association extends its deepest sympathies to our
member in this difficult and trying time. Out of respect to the
member and their family, the Association strongly urges all members
to respect this individual's privacy while also keeping them in your
thoughts.
While a sad reality, no one is immune to the possibility of
suffering through a horrific experience like this. REALTORS, though,
are at an elevated risk due to the nature of their profession.
Without reference to the specifics of this case, we would like to
remind members of resources that are available from both the
National Association of REALTORS and the Suburban West REALTORS
Association to assist with your safety.
The National Association of REALTORS maintains an assortment
of useful educational materials on their website. Their materials
provide important information on how to protect yourself at open
houses, in the office, in the car and talking on the phone. To
access this valuable resource, please click
here.
For a more interactive educational experience, the Suburban
West REALTORS Association continues to offer as part of its Office
Presentation Series a REALTOR Safety Module that can be presented at
member office meetings or education sessions. This session can be
customized to fit your time and content needs. If you would like to
have staff deliver a REALTOR Safety presentation to your office,
please contact Steve Farace at sfarace@suburbanwestrealtors.com
or call 610- 560-4800.
In addition to office presentations, members are invited to
attend a REALTOR Safety Seminar on February 9 at 9:30 a.m. to be
held at the Association’s office in Malvern. This 2-hour event will
feature specific information on keeping safe while on the job and
features a law enforcement expert. Registration is required to
attend this free Seminar. To register, please call Andrea Vaughn at
610-560- 4800 or email avaughn@suburbanwestrealtors.com.

Narberth Borough Rescinds Tax Hike
After Borough Manager Bill Martian submitted a revised budget
that would eliminate the need for a tax increase, the Narberth
Borough Council voted to kill a 4 percent tax increase for
2006.Under the motion, the 2006 tax rate will remain the same as the
2005 rate, at 5.629 mils. The 4 percent tax increase would have
generated approximately $85,000 in 2006. However, Martin said that
the 2005 end of year statement was higher than anticipated, so the
extra revenue would not be needed. (Source: Main Line Times;

Relocation Representation
Relocation sales are becoming an important growth area in
real estate. Either transferred by their employer or seeking a
change of venue on their own, these consumers need representation
that is different form the traditional buyer or seller. To represent
a transferee you need to know how the relocation process works as
well as what kinds of service the transferee needs. The Association
of Realtors School will present Successful Buyer Representation in
Relocation Sales on Thursday, February 2, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. Tuition
is $149.00 and includes all course materials and lunch. The course
has been approved for 7 hours of PA 04-06 real estate License
Renewal, 6 hours of DE real estate license renewal and satisfies the
elective credit for the ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative)
Designation. Note: This course is open to all REALTORS. You do not
have to be an ABR candidate to attend. To register, click
here or call 610-560-4900.
Townships Move Forward on Paoli Redevelopment Plan
The Tredyffrin and Willistown planning commissions will begin
to review the ordinances that could pave the way for the
redevelopment of downtown Paoli. The townships had a joint meeting
on the redevelopment Jan. 12. Paoli is nearly evenly divided between
them, and a joint task force has been working on implementing the
recommendations of the Paoli Master Plan passed in 2001. The
foundation of the master plan is to create an intermodal
transportation station that will have ample parking and create
better traffic flow around the building. The intention of the
improved station is to create a "village" atmosphere in Paoli.
Residents have acknowledged the need for some changes, but have been
skeptical about making Paoli a major transportation hub.
The new zoning would carve downtown Paoli into seven
districts: the transportation-center district around the station;
the village core business district along Route 30 from Plank Avenue
to Route 252; the highway business district to the west on Route 30;
village mixed use along West Central Avenue; multi- family
residential in northwest Paoli; a district for the shopping center
on Bear Hill Road; and a village district overlay over the downtown
that provides incentives for developers. For a detailed map and
further definitions of the districts, visit www.Tredyffrin.org.
Tredyffrin planners will discuss the ordinances at their Feb. 2
workshop meeting, and again during their Feb. 16 business meeting,
when public comment is welcome. (Source: Suburban Wayne Times;
